Medical gloves are disposable gloves used in medical examinations and procedures to help prevent cross contamination between nurses and patients. Medical gloves are made of different polymers, including latex, nitrile rubber, PVC and neoprene; They do not use flour or corn starch powder to lubricate gloves, making them easier to wear on hands.
Corn starch replaces the sugar coated powder and talc powder that stimulate the tissue, but even if corn starch enters the tissue, it can hinder the healing (such as during surgery). Therefore, powder free gloves are more often used during surgery and other sensitive procedures. Special manufacturing process is adopted to make up for the shortage of powder.
There are two main types of medical gloves: examination gloves and surgical gloves. Surgical gloves are more accurate in size, higher in precision and sensitivity, and reach a higher standard. Examination gloves can be sterile or non sterile, while surgical gloves are usually sterile.
Besides medicine, medical gloves are also widely used in chemical and biochemical laboratories. Medical gloves provide some basic protection against corrosion and surface contamination. However, they are easily penetrated by solvents and various hazardous chemicals. Therefore, when the task involves immersing the hands of gloves in solvents, do not use them for dishwashing or other means.

Generally, the inspection gloves are XS, s, m and L. Some brands may offer XL sizes. Surgical gloves are usually more accurate in size because they require long wear times and excellent flexibility. A study of a group of American surgeons found that the most common size of male surgical gloves was 7.0, followed by 6.5; 6.0 for women, followed by 5.5.

Talc powder has been used for decades, but it is related to postoperative granuloma and scar formation. Another corn starch used as a lubricant was also found to have potential side effects, such as inflammation, granuloma and scar formation.
Eliminate powdery medical gloves
With the advent of easy-to-use non powdered medical gloves, the voice of eliminating powdered gloves is growing. By 2016, they will no longer be used in German and UK healthcare systems. In march2016, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a proposal to prohibit its medical use, and passed a rule on December 19, 2016 to prohibit all powdered gloves for medical use. The rules came into force on 18 January 2017.
Powder free medical gloves are used in medical clean room environments where the need for cleaning is usually similar to the cleanliness in sensitive medical environments.
In order to make it easier for them to wear without powder, gloves can be treated with chlorine. Chlorination can affect some beneficial properties of latex, but also reduce the amount of sensitized latex proteins.
Double layer medical gloves editor
Wearing gloves is a method of wearing two-layer medical gloves to reduce the risk of infection caused by glove failure or sharp objects penetrating the gloves in medical procedures. When handling people with infectious pathogens such as HIV and hepatitis, surgeons should wear two fingered gloves to better protect patients from possible infections spread by surgeons. A systematic review of the literature has shown that the two hand cuff provides greater protection during surgery than the use of a single glove layer to prevent perforations inside the glove. However, it is not clear whether there are better protective measures to prevent infection among surgeons. Another systematic review examined whether the hand cuff could better protect surgeons from patient transmitted infections. The pooled results of 3437 participants in 12 studies (RCTs) showed that wearing gloves with two gloves reduced the number of perforations in inner gloves by 71% compared with wearing gloves with one. On average, 10 surgeons / nurses who participated in 100 operations would maintain 172 single glove perforations, but only 50 inner gloves would need to be perforated if they wore two hand covers. This reduces the risk.
In addition, cotton gloves can be worn under disposable gloves to reduce sweat when wearing these gloves for a long time. These gloves with gloves can be disinfected and reused.
